About me
A native Mainer, David has deep roots in the Ellsworth area. Originally from Sorrento, Maine, David grew up in Ellsworth, attended Ellsworth High School, and Husson University. After graduating from Husson with a master’s degree in business administration, he worked in insurance and healthcare management before coming to Seal Cove Auto Museum. David has always had a great passion for history, of all kinds. An amateur antique collector, he enjoys searching for interesting and historically significant items. Feeling the need to venture down a different career path, he answered a newspaper advertisement for summer employment with the Museum, applied, met with the then Acting Executive Director, and the rest is history! Since his time with the Museum, David has transitioned from Museum Associate to Associate Curator and now serves as Curator. He enjoys “running down rabbit holes” in his research of the landmark collection of Brass Era automobiles and automobilia within the Museum. In what he calls “Cross Industry Manufacturing,” he enjoys seeing the innovation and advancement that the automotive industry has leveraged through the evolution from the horse-drawn carriage to the horseless carriage. David has brought the Museum onto the Bloomberg Connects platform, an interactive guide to museums around the world. In addition, he writes social media posts, records and edits audio/video content, and writes content for Museum exhibits.
During his time outside of the Museum, David enjoys spending time with his son, being on the water at his family camp, and taking road trips around New England. He also enjoys working on his classic 1915 Cape Cod-style home in Ellsworth, working on his land, and projects of all types with his brother.
Be sure to stop by the Museum, and you may find David in his office inside the library, chasing down a new lead on historical provenance, under a vehicle with a flashlight, or walking around the Museum with visiting guests. You may also see him driving guests around the Museum campus in a vehicle which is part of the Demonstration/Education Collection. David may even be spotted speaking at a local history site or driving a vehicle to a local event. Wherever you discover him, say “Hi!” - he will gladly engage in animated conversation with you!
