About me
Mike Staggs’ path to becoming Executive Director of the Seal Cove Auto Museum is as colorful as the stories behind its Brass Era automobiles. Growing up in Pennsylvania, Mike left home to hike the entire 2,100-mile Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine—a bold decision that set the tone for a life of adventure. And adventure came early: in his youth, Mike even fought real pirates in the Caribbean, for real – ask him. After his Appalachian Trail journey, he attended College of the Atlantic, earning a degree in Human Ecology and building a foundation for his future. After meeting his wife Lynne, they hiked the 2700-mile Pacific Crest trail together. Mike worked for Friends of Acadia for over 20 years supporting the community that was so important to him. In 2024, Mike shifted gears from conservation work to take the helm at the Seal Cove Auto Museum, where he now shares his passion for early automobiles and the stories they tell.
Away from the museum, Mike’s life is just as dynamic. He and his wife Lynne live in Bar Harbor and enjoy life with their 12-year-old son, a black lab, a feisty cat, and a flock of 12 chickens. Mike loves cooking for family and friends, hiking in Acadia, riding motorcycles, sailing, scuba diving in Maine’s cold water, and embracing experiences that make life extraordinary. His story is one of curiosity, resilience, and a deep appreciation for history and adventure.
